John Sganga, a 26-year Edgemont resident, is the Senior Vice-President at a large healthcare company.  In addition to his longtime involvement in the Edgemont community, John also currently serves on the Board of White Plains Hospital.  Below, he tells us why he would like to see Edgemont become a village.

When did you move to Edgemont?

We moved here in 1992.  We initially lived in the Longview neighborhood and in 2001 we moved to our current home in the Fort Hill neighborhood.

 Tell us about your family.

My wife Monica currently serves on the Edgemont School Board.  We have two children, both born and raised in Edgemont.  They graduated from EHS, have since graduated from college, and are now employed in New York City, well-armed with an Edgemont education!

What have been your major community involvements?

I served on the Edgemont Community Council as treasurer, and also worked on the EVEC committee that considered back in 2005 whether Edgemont should become a village.  I have also served on the School Board Nominating Committee and the Fort Hill Association (as treasurer).  And I served as a youth basketball coach.

Outside of Edgemont, I am currently serving on the Board of Trustees at White Plains Hospital, and I previously served on the Board of Resources for Children with Special Needs (now known as IncludeNYC).

Why do you support incorporating Edgemont into a village?

I believe that it is very important for us to have local control, especially over zoning decisions.  I also think that by becoming a village, Edgemont can work on initiatives that establish a greater sense of community outside the walls of the school district.
